Certification Eligibility Requirements
AWR certification must be renewed every two years. Renewal candidates must either accrue and show proof of 16 hours of continuing education hours (CE’s) during the two-year period to qualify for renewal to retain certification. Renewal fees must be paid in full at the time of each renewal.

Upgrade Status from AWR to CWR
Active AWR’s may upgrade to CWR status. This certification is for individuals in appropriate active standing as an Associate Wildlife Rehabilitator wishing to upgrade their certification status to Certified Wildlife Rehabilitator. Applicants eligible for upgrade have met the experience requirements needed to become a Certified Wildlife Rehabilitator.
- Complete Upgrade from AWR to CWR application.
- Meet and submit 5,000 hours of wildlife rehabilitation related experience requirements (see information).
- Make the payment for upgrading status.
- Current AWR’s do not need to retake the exam to become a CWR.
- Provide proof of licensing/permitting if applicable.
- You will not be required to resubmit education requirements.
Complete all information requested on the application. An application that is not completed in its entirety will be sent back to the candidate and will need to be resubmitted.
Fees
Pay fees in full.
The following are the fees associated with the AWR Renewal:
Renewal fee: $40 per cycle
Re-testing fee: $40 per attempt
Upgrade to CWR fee: $85
Refund Policy
There will be no refund of any fees.
Revocation of Certification
The CWR™ CRB reserves the right to revoke certification for any of the following reasons:
- Falsification of any part of an application
- Misrepresentation of certification status
- Violation of the IWRC Code of Ethics
